In that time the shape were "studied" in this way: building a model in small scale. The shape was conceived by mr. Allegretti, it had a big success and was put in production by Maserati. Maserati in order to realize the serie of the real car, ordered to mr. Allegretti the manifacturing of all the bodies for this model.
